On behalf of the Boards of the International Balzan Foundation “Prize” in Milan and “Fund” in Zurich, the Vice President of the “Prize” Foundation Professor Alberto Quadrio Curzio expressed his great regret in announcing the passing of President Professor Enrico Decleva, in office since 2013.
Former Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Milan, where he was Rector from 2001 to 2012, he was also President of the Conference of Italian University Rectors from 2008 to 2011.
Professors Alberto Quadrio Curzio and Luciano Maiani acted as spokesmen for the Boards of the Foundation and the General Prize Committee respectively, as well as the Community of Collaborators and Board Members of the Balzan Foundation “Prize” in conveying their condolences and most sincere sympathies to the family: «With the death of President Decleva, the Balzan Foundation “Prize” has lost an extraordinary, refined personality whose level-headedness and great intellectual capacity always consolidated and enhanced the role of the Foundation in the world of culture and science. Thus, until the end, Enrico Decleva pursued his life’s mission dedicated to fostering knowledge as the founding element of human progress.»
